Clubs and teams are the backbone of cross country skiing. Through these organizations, new skiers get introduced to the sport, events are planned and executed, trips are taken, stories are swapped and equipment is evaluated. Unfortunately because Wisconsin's clubs are spread all over the state, they don't often communicate as often as would be helpful and as a result many clubs have been on their own for figuring out what makes a club work.
So, here it makes sense to talk about things like
- What organizations are out there: introduce your club
- How are you organized?
- How do you get new members and keep them interested?
- What is your focus? Candlelight skis, races, trips, what makes your club tick?
- Do you have some ideas that other clubs could use?
- How do you pay for your expenses? Fund raising, dues, donations?
And so on.
