Found: SNOW
It was Thurs. the 1st of the year when we pulled into Minaqua. Lots of skiers and just enough snow to ski. Lots of pine needles and debris but skiable if not a little icy. Traveling north towards ABR that evening we ran into rain/freezing rain/sleet/snow in that order.
ABR was quite a bit better with good coverage and fast trails with only the bigger downhills slippery caused by excessive snowplowing. With temps at the freezing mark classic waxing was tough but skating was good. CF worked well (naturally).
That evening freezing rain fell again an then temps dropped to single digits creating ice rink like conditions. I double poled around some forest service roads but skating in the morning was iffy. As we speak (SAT night) MKE and ORD are getting creamed with snow. Everyone needs to suck in a deep breath and draw it up here. Meanwhile keep an eye on www.skinnyski.com for reports. Kettle Morraine may get enough to open.
Go South young Man.
